Biography / Artist Statement
Born in Lubbock, Jody is the daughter of Conny Martin, artist, and C.B. Martin, retired builder and watercolorist. Jody never doubted that she would become an artist, and under her mother’s tutelage she learned classical drawing and contemporary design. A graduate of Abilene Christian University, she went on to study painting under Daniel Greene of New York, Ruth Tears and Emily Gutherie Smith of Ft. Worth.
Of Conny Martin, Jody says, “My mother was the most amazing person I’ve ever known. She filled my life with fun and adventure, and most importantly, I learned from her the love of painting this amazing world and the love of the creator who made it. My journey continues as I attempt to capture the soul beneath a face or the beauty of a moment!
