Biography / Artist Statement

James W. Johnson received an MFA from Texas Tech University in 1981 and has spent more than 80,000 hours creating art in Lubbock. He has created over 2,000 paintings, drawings, sculptures, etching, mixed media, and furniture pieces, most of which are in private and public collections around the world, including the Museum of Texas Tech University.

Johnson’s art has been included in over 200 exhibitions and competitions and he was the co-recipient of the 2011 Willian D. Kerns Award in the Visual Arts, from LHUCA.
